O'Neil Announces First Portable Printer for Patient Wristband Printing

O'Neil Compact -- "The OC" -- Industry's Smallest Label & Receipt Printer Provides World's Only Portable Solution for Patient Identification

IRVINE, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 02/27/08 -- O'Neil Product Development (NYSE: DOV) announces the availability of the industry's only portable printer for patient identification wristbands for the healthcare industry. The O'Neil Compact(TM) (OC) is the first commercially available portable thermal printer that supports O'Neil Printer Supplies Group's new SafeD-Band(TM) direct thermal wristbands. With its compact design, light weight and high image quality, the patent-pending OC in conjunction with SafeD-Band is the ideal solution to address the healthcare market's compelling need for bedside and mobile patient printing and identification.

The portable and wireless OC provides clinicians with the flexibility to print direct thermal wristbands during admissions, at the bedside, or anywhere in the facility. In addition, by printing wristbands on the OC, a host of other mobile applications become possible including the administration of medications, blood sampling, laboratory sample tracking, and patient treatment verification. The OC printer --available in conjunction with SafeD-Band wristbands -- is the only available portable printing solution to meet the United Kingdom's National Patient Safety Agency's 2009 mandate for admissions at bedside.

The OC prints the new SafeD-Band wristbands with any variety of patient information, such as first and last name, date of birth, medical records number and patient photo. The OC's portability makes it the ideal solution for acute care, ambulatory care, long-term care, and assisted living environments.

"The OC's compact, ergonomic design and quiet print performance make it a perfect choice for health technicians and administrators that require mobile wristband printing," said Paul Lehmann, O'Neil's director of product management.

"With the potential to significantly reduce errors, enhance patient safety, and address regulatory requirements, the use of the OC and SafeD-Bands will enable immediate and automated access to critical patient information at the point of care," concluded Jeff Osborne, vice president of branding & communications for O'Neil.

O'Neil's OC, introduced in early 2007, is already meeting mobile labeling requirements associated with retail, hospitality, transportation, and field sales and services applications. The advanced features standard with the OC offer extreme adaptability to meet the unique and industry specific portable printing requirements demanded in the mobile environment. These features include Bluetooth personal area networking and 802.11b/g wireless local area networking; high print quality, Flash memory, intelligent power management, and font and language flexibility.

The O'Neil Printer Supplies Group SafeD-Bands are available in adult, pediatric and neo-natal sizes, and are constructed of an ultra lightweight, latex-free synthetic material that features a unique thin layered edge that offers superior patient comfort. The SafeD-Band wristbands printed on the OC provide a one-step, one-product solution that supports the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization's (JCAHO's) patient safety initiatives and complies with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) health information privacy standards.
