MultiVu Video Feed: Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute, LLC Launches New Training Center to Improve Community-Based Diabetes Care
Training Center Scheduled to Open Friday, Feb. 29 NEW YORK, February 28 /PRNewswire/ -- On Friday, February 29, the Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute, LLC will open its first training center in the U.S., designed to improve how practitioners deliver diabetes care in local communities. Located in Milipitas, CA, the center will be devoted to training community health professionals.
Diabetes affects more than 20 million Americans and costs the economy $174 billion a year -- about as much as the conflicts in Iraq, Afghanistan and the global war on terrorism combined. But as the disease reaches epidemic levels, a new survey finds community-based health professionals reporting an acute shortage of training and education for professionals, which impacts their ability to improve diabetes outcomes. Johnson & Johnson Diabetes Institute, LLC underwrote a comprehensive national survey aimed at assessing the issues and needs of health professionals who regularly treat diabetes patients at the community level. The survey found that among community-based clinicians that provide diabetes care:
* 95% - Define diabetes as an epidemic in their communities * 91% - Report rising rates of diabetes in their communities over the past 5 years * 78% - Identify lack of early screenings as a cause for the complications their patients face when they are eventually diagnosed * 83% - Worry that not enough attention is being paid to diabetes management at the community level For more information about the center, please visit: http://jjdi.us SATELLITE FEEDS:
