The Suzuki Store & Your Carolina Ask Residents to Help 'Fill the Trunk' for the Good Neighbor Cupboard

March Food Drive to Help Fill the Shelves of Local Food Pantry The Suzuki Store to Accept Non-Perishable Food Donations &Match Cash Contributions up to a Total of $5,000

ANDERSON, S.C., March 7 /PRNewswire/ -- With Easter just around the corner, many of us are thinking about food and fellowship with family for this special holiday. But at one of Anderson's local food pantries, the Good Neighbor Cupboard, the thought is about having enough food on the shelves to serve the roughly 500 people that come through its doors seeking sustenance each month.

"The need has never been greater," said Floyd Berry, President of the Good Neighbor Cupboard. "With the state of the economy, folks are coming to us in desperate times. Some face losing their homes. Others can't afford gas for their cars. And yet others are barely getting by. But here, they can get food to ensure their kids and their family can eat. That is as long as we have the food to give."

Berry has been a volunteer at this non profit food bank since 1995. However, the number of families the Good Neighbor Cupboard serves each month has risen more than 21 percent since last year. The agency served up bags of groceries and hope to approximately 4,700 area residents in 2006 and more than 5,700 people last year. And, the need keeps growing.

For this reason, The Suzuki Store and Your Carolina with Jack & Kimberly have teamed up to raise awareness and help re-stock the shelves at this long- established agency.

From Saturday, March 8 through Friday March 28, area residents can drop off non-perishable food items for the Good Neighbor Cupboard at The Suzuki Store of Anderson, located at 4008 Clemson Boulevard, during regular business hours. In addition, The Suzuki Store will match cash contributions for the Good Neighbor Cupboard up to a total of $5,000, to assist the food bank with other monthly expenses including the purchases of perishable items such as eggs and milk.

"As a business owner and a local resident, it's up to all of us to do our part to help our fellow neighbor," said Darric Sewell, owner and General Manager, The Suzuki Store. "The Suzuki Store is proud to support this agency that is a lifeline to so many folks that are facing roadblocks in their lives, often to circumstances beyond their control. We're proud to contribute our time and talents, as well as dollars to support this important community agency."

All food and cash contributions will be presented to the Good Neighbor Cupboard on Saturday, March 29. All contributions are tax deductible.
