- Str=F6er Metropolitan Furniture Design Wins yet Another Award in one of
the World's Most Prominent Design Contests
In creating his Str=F6er Metropolitan Furniture line, British designer
James Irvine focused on improving the quality of life for people living in
large cities. The artist recently received the red dot design award, which
recognized his design's inspired and innovative character and lauded the
premium quality of the products. The iF award celebration, which honored his
design "Irvine II," took place two weeks ago.
At a first glance, the Metropolitan Furniture pieces of the Milan, Italy
based furniture and industrial designer appear to defy gravity. Thanks to
their lightweight design, the objects appear to be suspended in the air.
While they are definitely eye-catching, they are never in your face.
According to Irvine, these made-from-aluminum furnishings, which include
pieces for waiting rooms, toilets, city information systems and advertising
media, aim at achieving primarily two objectives: "They should simply be
attractive and represent today's zeitgeist. The main goal is to give people
the quality of life they can now expect in our contemporary urban areas."
The basic shapes of the individual objects are manufactured from premium
rod-pressed aluminum. The surfaces are extremely sturdy and can be enhanced
flexibly with a wide array of colors, to meld them harmoniously with a wide
variety of metropolitan landscapes.

especially in the design of Metropolitan Furniture. The coveted red dot

Design / Interior Architecture for its British designer's creations at the
