Cheifer and Suarez Earn Three Awards at National Moot Court Competition

ULV College of Law earns second place finish in Hispanic National Bar Association's National Moot Court Competition in New York

ONTARIO, Calif., March 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Ontario, Calif.-based University of La Verne College of Law is celebrating today, as it welcomes home its 2008 Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) Moot Court Team. Law students Solomon Cheifer and Rodrigo Suarez advanced to the final round of the HNBA's two-day moot court competition on March 13-14, ultimately placing second out of 22 teams.

Held at the Crowne Plaza in New York, the 13th annual moot court competition, themed "Latinos on Wall Street: Shaping America's Future Through Law and Finance," was co-hosted by the Hispanic National Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Foundation. Focusing on the breadth of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, the competition tested students' legal analysis, research, writing and oral presentation skills in a mock U.S. Supreme Court setting.

After months of preparation, Messrs. Cheifer and Suarez received the following awards and scholarships:

-- National Finalist (2nd place) Team: $1,500
-- 2nd Place Petitioner's Brief Award: $250
-- 3rd Place Oralist Award (Solomon Cheifer): $100
