GEMI Launches New HSE Web Depot

WASHINGTON, March 25 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, the Global Environmental Management Initiative (GEMI) re-released the web tool, www.gemi.org/hsewebdepot for environmental professionals who address information management system challenges and opportunities for their companies. The web tool was originally launched in 2001.

"GEMI is very pleased to announce the release of its new HSE Web Depot (www.gemi.org/hsewebdepot), a web-based resource for the development and continual improvement of Health, Safety & Environment Management Information Systems (HSE-MIS)," said GEMI's Chair, Bob Accarino, Director of Environmental Affairs, Abbott. "This tool as with all GEMI tools reflects a collaborative effort and leadership from GEMI company representatives with the support of Trinity Consultants and TrainUp," said Accarino.

"Today's global business and environmental issues are converging and challenging us to participate constructively in the strategic decision-making process and create value and opportunity for our companies. Accomplishing this depends directly on having tools to help effectively derive useful information from massive amounts of input," said GEMI's MIS Work Group Co-Chair, Audrey Bamberger, Engineer, Strategic Environmental Initiatives, Anheuser-Busch, Inc. "As environmental professionals, the closer we work with our peers on the information management side the better chance we have of providing our corporate leaders with the data they need to make informed decisions."

GEMI's MIS Work Group Co-Chair, Lyle Staley, Manager Environmental Program Development, BNSF Railway added, "The HSE Web Depot has been developed and is based on a Plan, Do, Check, Advance (PDCA) approach that lets a user decide how best to utilize the tool." "A user of the Web Depot may find value in systematically working through the tools and all of its steps or by selecting a topic of interest and diving deeper to help address their information management systems needs," Staley concluded.

"The GEMI HSE Web Depot presents a framework for HSE-MIS planning, development, system rollout and improvement and organizes company experiences within these areas in an easy to use format," said Bamberger. "The web tool contains several member company case studies that can be helpful to the user. All of us who worked on and developed this tool wanted to make sure that the Web Depot facilitated information sharing among practitioners in this evolving, growing field of environmental information management."
