Caregivers to the Stars Light Up the Night; Healthcare Professionals Organize Candlelight Vigil to Prevent a Strike at Motion Picture and Television Fund Hospital
LOS ANGELES, March 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Thursday, March 27, caregivers at the Motion Picture & Television Fund (MPTF) Hospital will hold a candlelight vigil with hope of preventing a future strike. More than 570 caregivers, represented by SEIU United Healthcare Workers - West, were forced to authorize a strike after management made a final contract offer that did not include the workers' proposals to increase staffing levels and recruit and retain quality healthcare providers.
Healthcare workers are organizing the vigil to bring management back to the negotiating table to bargain in good faith a contract that protects patient care. Discussions have been unsuccessful so far, because management has refused to implement the caregivers' solutions to improve patient care standards even though financial reports demonstrate the hospital has resources to do so. MPTF Hospital was created exclusively to serve the needs of entertainment industry professionals and their families.
WHAT: Candlelight vigil for better patient standards and quality care at WHO: Healthcare professionals, United Healthcare Workers - West, community and religious leaders, and allies. WHEN: Thursday, March 27, 2008
