Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) San Francisco Energy Fact Sheet

SAN FRANCISCO, March 26 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- BOMA San Francisco, a not-for-profit commercial real estate trade association, provides literally dozens of informational resources, classes and programs that contribute tangibly to reducing energy consumption and improving environmental standards and practices. For its efforts, in 2001 the Governor bestowed the state's "Flex Your Power" award to BOMA for outstanding leadership in energy conservation. Among the programs BOMA San Francisco employs to reduce energy consumption and promote responsible environmental practices are:

-- The BOMA Efficiency Energy Program (BEEP) - BEEP is an innovative series of classes that teaches commercial real estate professionals how to reduce energy consumption with proven, no- and low-cost strategies for optimizing equipment, people and operating practices. With support from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Energy Star Program, BOMA's objective is to reduce energy consumption by as much as 30 percent* in participating commercial properties by 2012. For promoting energy management in commercial buildings through the BOMA Energy Efficiency Program, the EPA has recognized BOMA International with its ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year award - in both 2007 and 2008. BOMA International is the only real estate association to receive this honor.

-- The BOMA SF Energy Conservation Resource Center - Found on the BOMA SF Web site at www.bomasf.org/energy-cons.html, the Resource Center is a helpful and useful guide to information related to state and local energy consumption policies, utility rebates, effective conservation measures and more - for both building operators and tenants alike.

-- The BOMA Earth Awards Program - Formerly known as the Commercial Office Recycler of the Year (CoRY) Awards, BOMA's Earth Awards recognize member businesses for their resourcefulness and diligence in developing programs that promote sustainable environmental practices, e.g. recycling, energy and water conservation, etc. in commercial office buildings.

-- Green Lease - BOMA International will soon publish a sustainable practices guide designed to help prompt businesses to reduce consumption of energy, forging a "green" partnership between commercial landlords and tenants.

-- BOMA SF's High Rise Recycling Program - Founded 20 years ago, the High Rise Recycling Program helps hundreds of San Francisco office buildings annually recycle more than 20,000 tons of paper and cardboard, more than 500 tons of bottles and cans, and immense quantities of construction and demolition debris, saving considerable landfill space. The program is now being expanded to include organics and on-site composting.

-- Demolition Debris Recycling Ordinance - BOMA San Francisco spearheaded development of the City's Construction and Demolition Debris Recycling Ordinance, which annually diverts over one hundred thousand tons of construction & demolition debris from landfill.
