2008 Edition of Destination Oakland Now Available

Popular visitors guide provides suggestions on where to eat, stay and play

OAKLAND, Calif., March 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Oakland Convention & Visitors Bureau (OCVB) announced today that its popular travel directory, Destination Oakland, is now available in print and online at www.oaklandcvb.com. Located just 12 miles east of San Francisco, Oakland's convenient location, temperate weather, tasty cuisine and interesting attractions attract visitors from around the world.

Updated annually, Destination Oakland includes 54-pages of photos and information on Oakland attractions, hotels, restaurants and meeting venues. The guide is a valuable reference for professional meeting planners organizing group travel to Oakland, local residents planning events such as weddings and reunions and individuals looking to plan a fun night out on the town or a weekend of sightseeing.

In addition to more color photographs than in previous editions, Destination Oakland 2008 also includes:

-- New food and entertainment features
-- An expanded section on Oakland neighborhoods

-- A new section called "Flying In" that highlights transportation and Oakland International Airport.

As in past years, the guide also includes the definitive list of meeting facilities available for rental in the area.

The 60,000 printed copies of Destination Oakland are distributed at Oakland International Airport and local visitor centers, hotels, restaurants, cafes, bookstores and other retail outlets. It is also sent to conference attendees and by request to visitors planning trips to Oakland.

Destination Oakland can also be seen at www.oaklandcvb.com, where it is viewed by an additional 350,000 locals and potential visitors. Visitors to the website can download a .pdf copy of the guide for easy printing or browse through an interactive version of the publication.

"This guide is an important tool for anyone organizing a group meeting in Oakland, but it is also valuable for locals who want to take advantage of all that Oakland has to offer in terms of dining and entertainment," said Manette Belliveau, executive director of the Oakland Convention & Visitors Bureau. "Now that more people have access to the guide online, we find that about two-thirds of the guide's readership is local."
