American Stock Exchange Reports a Decrease in Short Interest

NEW YORK, April 4, 2008 /PRNewswire/ -- The American Stock Exchange(R) (Amex(R)) member and non-member organizations today reported short interest of 1,269,416,486 shares as of the March 31, 2008 settlement date, a decrease of 48,602,342 from the 1,318,018,828 (adjusted) shares reported on March 14, 2008. The figure represents trades through March 26, 2008.

In the year ago period, short interest totaled 877,447,463 (adjusted).

The March end-of-month short interest position reflects short interest reported by all broker-dealers (not only Amex member firms) in Amex-listed stocks. A short position of 5,000 or more shares existed in 832 issues. Some short position was shown in 1,398 issues.

The attached short interest report was compiled by the Amex on the basis of information obtained from its member and non-member organizations covering all securities dealt in on the Exchange on both round and odd-lots.
