Dead Skunk Tests Positive For Rabies
STURBRIDGE, Mass., April 4, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Officials at Old Sturbridge Village report that a dead skunk was found in a cow pen on Thursday. In accordance with procedures, the OSV farm staff notified local animal control and board of health officials. The remains were sent to the Massachusetts state lab for testing. Lab results confirmed that the dead skunk tested positive for rabies.
At this time, it does not appear that any OSV animals are affected. OSV routinely vaccinates its animals against rabies. As a precaution, however, OSV will restrict public contact with its farm animals for 45 days. The village staff has notified public health authorities with jurisdiction over this matter. Old Sturbridge Village remains open for visitation as usual, and all programs and activities will continue as scheduled. Anyone seeking more information may contact the Village at 508-347-0300.
