PA Agriculture Secretary Warns Hughesville Area Residents To Be Aware of Stray Dogs

HARRISBURG, Pa., April 7, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Residents in and around Hughesville, Lycoming County, are urged to beware of a pack of stray dogs involved in three attacks on other dogs since Friday, said Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff today.

Three dogs, including a tan, male pitbull/rottweiler mix; a black-and-white, female boxer mix; and a black, female boxer mix, have been involved in the attacks of three local dogs, one of which died.

The attacks took place on Yagel Road, Sunrise Drive and Reservoir Road, all in the Hughesville area.

"Unknown animals should always be avoided," said Wolff. "I urge residents to take the necessary precautions to protect any outside pets, including bringing them indoors, and to limit leisure walks with their dogs while the dangerous dogs are still at large. Residents should also keep a watchful eye on children and tell them not to approach stray dogs."

Anyone who believes they may have seen the dogs should contact Pennsylvania Dog Warden Scott Shurer at 570-350-8742, or the local police.
