Caregivers Plan Second Strike at Emmanuel Millbrae
Nursing Home Operator Continuing to Jeopardize Residents' Care MILLBRAE, Calif., April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Healthcare workers at Emmanuel Millbrae Convalescent Hospital will launch their second strike at the facility in two months, in response to management's unwillingness to bargain fairly over the workers' proposals to improve care.
The three-day strike is set to begin at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15. Caregivers launched a previous, 24-hour strike in February over unfair labor practices at Emmanuel Millbrae, including the unjust firing of pro-union workers and unilateral reduction in benefits and paid time off. Healthcare workers are concerned the actions of new owner A&C Health Care Services could threaten resident care at the 140-bed nursing home. For example, the same company operates Camden Convalescent Hospital in Campbell, over the last two years, inspectors have found widespread problems with fire safety and pharmacy services.
