Blunt: Republicans Force Vote to Protect Working Families

WASHINGTON, April 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- House Republican Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) issued the following statement today regarding attempts by House Republicans to pass legislation introduced by Rep. Tim Walberg (R-Mich.) to stop the almost $700 billion tax hike Democrats have proposed in their recently passed budget:

"In last year's federal budget, Democrats proposed the largest tax increase in American history. This year these same Democrats found a way somehow to beat their own dubious record, thus confirming the age-old adage that history really does repeat itself. That's a $700 billion history lesson that American taxpayers won't forget. And by next April families across the country will wish this do-nothing majority lived up to its name by doing nothing.

"House Republicans will force a vote on legislation tomorrow that will put members of the House on record as being for tax hikes or against them. This will be an opportunity for Democrats to join House Republicans in protecting the wallets and bank accounts of America's working families."

NOTE: On June 14, 2007, Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI) introduced the Tax Increase Prevention Act (H.R. 2734). The legislation would stop the $683 billion tax increase passed by House Democrats in March as part of their FY 2009 budget proposal. House Republicans will force a vote on Rep. Walberg's proposal.
