Aerojet Boosters Help Propel 14th Successful Atlas V Launch

SACRAMENTO, Calif., April 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aerojet, a GenCorp (NYSE:GY) company, participated in the 14th successful launch of the United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket. Launched from Space Launch Complex 41 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Fla., the Atlas V vehicle included two of Aerojet's 67-foot, single monolithic structure solid rocket boosters. The boosters provided approximately 500,000 lbs. of additional thrust to propel the ICO G-1 mobile communications satellite into geostationary orbit.

Other Aerojet hardware on the launch included 12 Aerojet monopropellant thrusters on the Atlas V Centaur upper stage that provided roll, pitch and yaw control, and settling burns for the upper stage main engine. Aerojet also provided eight retro rockets for Atlas Centaur separation. "Aerojet is very pleased to be part of the Atlas V launch team and we are committed to maintaining our 100 percent mission success record," said Aerojet President Scott Neish.
