Unite Says "Don't Damage Devonport"

PLYMOUTH, England, April 18/PRNewswire/ --

- Press Conference on Friday 18th April at 11:45 am

Jack Dromey, Deputy General Secretary of Unite, will today
(Friday) warn that politicians should not play games with the future of
Devonport Dockyard and Naval Base. Mr. Dromey will report on discussions that
he has had with the Secretary of State for Defence, Des Browne, confirming
that the future of the historic Dockyard and Naval Base is safe. Mr. Dromey
is particularly critical of the Conservatives in Plymouth for
"scare-mongering." "Don't damage Devonport" Mr. Dromey will say.

There is no room for complacency, however, Mr. Dromey will
warn. But all parties must now concentrate on the real task in hand and that
is to ensure that we secure the necessary work for Devonport, defence and
civil. "If the Yard and Naval Base are safe" Mr. Dromey will say "then
crucial for the future will be workload to keep thousands of Plymouth workers
in employment."

Finally, also present at the Press Conference will be local
Members of Parliament, Linda Gilroy and Alison Seabeck.
