Local Wind Purchase Is Equal To 100% Of WWF's Total Electricity Consumption For The Coming Year ARLINGTON, Va., April 21 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Pepco Energy Services, a subsidiary of Pepco Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:POM) and a leader in supplying renewable electricity, announced today that it has been awarded a contract to supply wind energy to the U.S. headquarters of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in Washington, D.C. Working in over 100 countries around the world, WWF has led international conservation efforts for more than 45 years.
The one-year contract that began in January calls for Pepco Energy Services to provide WWF with nearly 5.1 million kilowatt hours of wind energy for its 235,000 square foot building located at 1250 24th Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. Under this contract, Pepco Energy Services will provide wind energy generated from wind farms located in West Virginia and Pennsylvania. "WWF constantly looks at ways to lessen our environmental footprint. Using wind energy provides WWF's headquarters with a substantial opportunity to reduce its emissions," said WWF President and Chief Executive Officer Carter Roberts. "Wind-generated electricity is great -- it's pollution-free, inexhaustible and increasingly we can afford it."
"Pepco Energy Services is proud to be supplying locally produced wind energy to WWF, the largest multinational conservation organization in the world," said John Huffman, President and Chief Operating Officer of Pepco Energy Services. "Their wind energy purchase is significant -- equal to 100% of WWF's total electricity consumption for the coming year."
