BOMA San Francisco Announces Winners of 2008 Earth Awards

SAN FRANCISCO, April 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of San Francisco yesterday recognized nine San Francisco companies at the 2008 Earth Awards Luncheon for their demonstrated leadership in developing innovative practices that promote sustainable, "green" working environments.

The Earth Awards acknowledge efforts by local commercial properties to reduce water and energy usage, reduce or eliminate use of toxics that affect indoor air quality, educate commercial tenants in sustainable operating practices, promote the use of public transportation and bicycling in daily commuting, and recycle everything from paper, bottles, cans, cardboard and food waste to construction debris.

The 2008 BOMA SF Earth Award Winners are:

Large Commercial Buildings - 1st Place - 101 California Street, owned and managed by Hines
2nd Place - Post Montgomery Center, managed by Cushman & Wakefield
3rd Place - 303 Second Street, managed by Cushman & Wakefield

Medium Commercial Buildings - 1st Place - 275 Battery Street, managed by Boston Properties
2nd Place - 455 Market Street, managed by Cushman & Wakefield


3rd Place - The Russ Building, owned and managed by the Shorenstein Company

Small Commercial Buildings - 1st Place - The Ferry Building, managed by Equity Office Properties


2nd Place - 111 Sutter Street, managed by CAC Real Estate Management Company 3rd Place - 369 Pine Street, owned and managed by The Swig Company

The first, second and third place winners in each category received cash prizes in the amounts of $4,000, $2,000 and $1,000, respectively, which were provided courtesy of the San Francisco Department of Environment and Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E).

The BOMA Earth Awards is a collaborative event to promote sustainable practices in San Francisco's buildings. Co-sponsors of this year's event included the San Francisco Department of the Environment, PG&E, Golden Gate Disposal & Recycling Company and the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission. Other major sponsors included Metro Maintenance, Green Zebra and Retro-Com Energy Strategies. There were a total of 29 contestants this year, of which several were first time applicants.
