Tom Hamby, AT&T President-Alabama, Announces Retirement

Helped Bring Regulatory Reform and Advanced Products During 37-Year Career

BIRMINGHAM, Ala., April 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T) has announced that Tom Hamby, AT&T President-Alabama, will retire effective June 30, 2008. Hamby began his career at AT&T 37 years ago and was appointed to his current position in Alabama in 1999.

Under Hamby's tenure as AT&T President-Alabama, and a similar prior position with BellSouth, the state Legislature passed landmark telecommunications legislation, opening the path to greater competition, investment, customer choice and new services. In the early 1990s, Hamby led the effort to bring caller identification and voice mail products to customers. He has held various assignments in the Network, Marketing and Regulatory departments in Georgia, Alabama and Washington, D.C.

Hamby also has been a leader in both the business and civic communities in Birmingham and throughout the state. He is chairman of the board of the Birmingham Museum of Art and the Boy Scouts Council of Central Alabama. He previously chaired the Metropolitan Development Board, the Business Council of Alabama and the Birmingham Regional Chamber of Commerce.

He is a current director on the boards of Protective Life Corp. and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute.

A native of Social Circle, Ga., Hamby graduated from the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in engineering. He was also commissioned in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and later served 10 years in the reserves and guard.
