ScottsMiracle-Gro Provides Instructions for Consumers to Participate in Nationwide Recall of Two Lawn and Garden Products

MARYSVILLE, Ohio, May 6 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company has undertaken a nationwide recall of four products due to concerns regarding the status of their federal registrations. Two of the products are not registered with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the other two products are registered but are not properly labeled. Scotts has asked consumers to stop use of the products and return any of the recalled products to Scotts.

Two of the four recalled products are subject to a consumer recall. The company is providing instructions for homeowners to participate in a nationwide consumer recall of the following two lawn and garden products:

-- Bonus S MAX Southern Weed and Feed with Fire Ant Killer
5M: UPC 032247355056; 10M: UPC: 032247355100; 12M: UPC: 032247355124;
EPA Reg. No.:538-301 (found bottom left of bag). This product is being
recalled because it is improperly labeled.

-- Miracle-Gro Shake 'n Feed Plus Weed Preventer
1 oz. sample packet; Marked "Not for Resale"; 4.5 lb yellow applicator
jug with green top; UPC 073561008365; 8 lb yellow applicator jug with
green top; UPC 073561048361; EPA Reg. No. 62355-4 (found next to UPC)
This product is being recalled because it was not registered with the
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.


These products must be returned only in an approved shipping container, which will be provided at no cost by the company. These products should not be disposed of in any other way and should not be returned to the stores where they were purchased. To obtain instructions on how to return the products, consumers should visit www.Scotts.com or
Consumers who participate in the recall will be provided with a full refund for the original purchase price as well as coupon good towards their next purchase of Scotts or Miracle-Gro products. They also will be sent the shipping materials, which will provide instructions on how to return the products free of charge.

Until the shipping materials arrive, consumers should keep the products away from children and pets. Products should be securely stored in a cool, dry location, such as a secure cabinet.

"We strongly encourage consumers to participate in this recall and to contact us to receive the shipping package," said Jim Hagedorn, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer. "We want to stress that products should not be returned to the store where they were purchased and we apologize for any inconvenience that this creates."

Another product, TurfBuilder Max Plus 2 Weed & Feed and Crabgrass Preventer (EPA Reg. No. 538-299), also has been recalled from retailers because it was not properly labeled. However, consumers are not being asked to return this product. A fourth product, Scotts LawnService Fertilizer with .28 Halts Pro (EPA Reg. No. 538-304) also has been recalled because it was not registered with U.S. EPA. This product had only been used by lawn service professionals and was never in retail distribution. It is no longer being used by Scotts LawnService.
