SOS Children's Villages Gives Aide to Refugees on the Myanmar-Thai Border
WASHINGTON, May 9 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SOS Children's Villages, the world's largest organization for orphaned and abandoned children is providing food, shelter, water & medical supplies to the Chiang Rai community on the Thai-Myanmar border. Many Myanmar child refugees flood across the border each year and are often malnourished and sick.
"SOS Children's Villages has been providing aid for these refugees for the last several years and never has it been more important than now," said Heather Paul, President & CEO of SOS Children's Villages USA. "In light of the current natural disaster, these efforts are vital to the survival of the inhabitants of the area around Chiang Rai which is on the Myanmar border," said Paul.
Over 1 million people have been displaced due to the devastation of the cyclone which hit Myanmar last Saturday. SOS Children's Villages will continue to monitor the situation from the border while administering aide to refugees who continue to flood into Thailand every day. "It is a travesty that humanitarian organizations like SOS must stay on the border when there is such devastation in Myanmar," said Paul, "But in the meantime we will feed, shelter and administer medical aide to those crossing the border." SOS is at the forefront of the humanitarian movement because we help create sustainable communities though our villages and outreach programs. All donations go toward tangible improvements in the lives of orphaned and abandoned children all around the world. SOS Children's Villages was founded in 1949 to provide loving homes for orphaned and abandoned children. Today there are over 450 villages in 132 countries around the world which are home to more than 60,000 children.
