Fatality in River Dart after car drives off jetty

Brixham Coastguard launched a search of the river after being contacted
at 6pm by the river ferry Dark Princess reporting they had seen a car
drive at speed off the jetty on the Kings Weir side of the River Dart.
Dartmouth RNLI inshore lifeboat and Coastguard Rescue Teams from Berryhead,
Dartmouth and Prawle were joined in the search by a Harbour Authority launch.

Brixham Coastguard continued coordinating the search this evening, working with
Police who were attempting to find out who was in the car and what happened.
It is still unknown if the action was deliberate or an accident. The search
was stood down at 10.40pm after Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed that
they do not believe there were other occupants in the vehicle.
