Weber Survey Shows That Burgers Will Rule the Barbecue This Memorial Day

PALATINE, Ill., May 22 /PRNewswire/ -- The most popular food that will be grilled this Memorial Day is hamburgers at 74 percent, according to the latest Weber GrillWatch(TM) Pulse. Hot dogs and chicken are also favorite holiday fare at 65 and 60 percent respectively.

The Survey also reveals that nearly one-half (44 percent) of all Americans are planning to spend time around the grill this Memorial Day weekend either attending a barbecue, hosting a barbecue, or grilling on their own.

Of those who will be grilling over the holiday weekend, two-thirds (66 percent) of Weber GrillWatch Pulse respondents reported that they will be grilling at home, while 41 percent will be attending a barbecue, and 18 percent will be hosting a barbecue. Overall, 59 percent of charcoal grill owners and 58 percent of gas grill owners have plans to be grilling over the Memorial Day weekend.

For those planning to grill this Memorial Day, the main course is the most popular choice (93 percent), followed by appetizers (23 percent), and side dishes (22 percent). Some of this year's Memorial Day grillers even plan on doing desserts (six percent) on the barbecue.

From the Weber Newsroom(TM), the Weber GrillWatch Pulse is an up-to-the-minute survey commissioned by Weber-Stephen Products Co. and conducted by a third party online research firm to ensure accuracy. A sample of 1,078 adults 18 years and older were surveyed May 8 through 9, 2008. The sample is balanced to be representative of the general population in the U.S. based on region, gender, age, and household income.
