Universal Detection Technology Comments on Recent White Powder Incident at a Post Office in Pomona, California

Incident Led to the Hospitalization of 8 Postal Workers

LOS ANGELES, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 05/23/08 -- Universal Detection Technology (www.udetection.com) (OTCBB: UDTT) (FRANKFURT: PO8), a developer of early-warning monitoring technologies to protect people from bioterrorism and other infectious health threats and provider of counter-terrorism consulting and training services, commented today on a white powder incident at a post office in the City of Pomona, California. The incident led to the hospitalization of 8 postal workers and quarantining of the remaining employees pending testing on the substance.

According to Inspector Ron Haralson of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, authorities were called to the post office around 10:15 a.m. Thursday when eight people on the loading dock complained of skin irritation after handling a brown envelope containing the powder. The exposed employees were taken to the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center for treatment. The nature of the white powder is yet unknown pending further testing.

UDTT is a supplier of a hand held bio-detection kit that is capable of detecting for 5 deadly agents, including anthrax and Ricin, in one test. UDTT has supplied the kits to first responders throughout the country including the Washington, D.C. Fire and EMS Services and the Burbank Fire Department.

"This incident, along with the Ricin incident in Las Vegas in March of this year, indicate how a terrorist can cause havoc using small amounts of deadly bio-agents," said Mr. Jacques Tizabi, UDTT's Chief Executive Officer. "Local officials need to be equipped with latest technology to accurately test and identify hazardous material in the field," he added.
