Lower Providence Planning Commission Recommends Approval of The American Revolution Center
WAYNE, Pa., May 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The Lower Providence Township Planning Commission last night unanimously recommended preliminary approval of The American Revolution Center museum and educational conference center land development plan.
The commission also recommended preliminary and final approval of a one-story trailhead building that is part of the project. The trailhead building, which will be constructed in the first-phase of the project, will offer information about the center and region's trail network. "We appreciate the time and attention the Township and Planning Commission gave this important project," said Thomas M. Daly, The American Revolution Center President and CEO. "This is an important step in the effort to bring our Nation's only museum dedicated to this defining period of American history to Lower Providence."
Located on 78-acres of privately owned land adjacent to Valley Forge National Historical Park, The American Revolution Center will be the first museum dedicated to interpreting, honoring and celebrating the complete story of the entire American Revolution. The cultural center will include a rich collection of objects, art, manuscripts and rare books that has been assembled over nearly a century. The educational conference center will host visiting scholars and provide distance-learning opportunities for students and the general public including programs, lectures, symposia, and meetings of major academic organizations. The entire learning center, with more than 75 percent of the land preserved as open space, will provide a rich experience for visitors while treading lightly on the land. The museum will have a green roof. The entire site will be treated as an integrated, self-sustaining ecosystem. For example, trees will be planted as part of the terraced parking areas and rain gardens will gather storm water. Bikers, hikers, birders and other recreational users will be encouraged to use the Center's outdoor trails that connect to other trails in the region. The grounds will be open without charge. The plan will be considered by the Lower Providence Board of Supervisors on June 23. For more information, visit www.americanrevolutioncenter.org. First Call Analyst:
