Gov. Mario Cuomo to Address World's Water Professionals
Former New York Governor keynotes June 10 Water Industry Luncheon at ACE08 DENVER, May 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Former New York Governor Mario Cuomo will offer his observations on both the U.S. presidential election and the challenges facing the water industry at 1 p.m., June 10 during the American Water Works Association's (AWWA) Annual Conference and Exposition (ACE08) in Atlanta, Georgia.
Gov. Cuomo, one of the United States' most respected modern political figures, will address a crowd of water utility managers, technology manufacturers, consultants and others at the Water Industry Luncheon inside the Georgia World Congress Center. "We are privileged to have someone of Gov. Cuomo's stature and experience talk to our industry leaders," said AWWA Executive Director Gary Zimmerman. "Gov. Cuomo's views on the political scene and his insight into how to solve large-scale problems are a great addition to the program at ACE08."
Mario Cuomo was the longest serving Democratic governor in the modern history of New York State, having served for three terms and twice setting New York records for the highest popular vote ever achieved in a statewide election. He declined invitations to run for President of the United States and to serve on the United States Supreme Court. The National Review has described Governor Cuomo "as both the philosopher-king and the humble 'conscience' of the Democratic Party, a formidable, saintly genius of liberalism." The New York Times called his tenure "one of the most celebrated governorships in history." A March 2007 Marist College poll of 641 registered voters were asked whether they thought various governors were good. Governor Cuomo, a Democrat, received a 74 percent favorable rating above those received by Governors Pataki, Carey and Rockefeller, making him the highest-rated of the New York governors who served full terms since 1958, a half century ago. Registration is required. Tickets for the event are $55 per person. Visit www.awwa.org/ACE08 for details. AWWA is the authoritative resource for knowledge, information, and advocacy to improve the quality and supply of water in North America and beyond. AWWA is the largest organization of water professionals in the world. AWWA advances public health, safety and welfare by uniting the efforts of the full spectrum of the entire water community. Through our collective strength we become better stewards of water for the greatest good of the people and the environment. Note to Media: Gov. Cuomo will speak to members of the media immediately
