Kara Kelty for Corporation Commission 'Clean Campaign for Clean Energy'
Congressman Grijalva Endorses Kara Kelty; Kelty Campaign for Clean, Affordable Energy Launches with over 7,000 Supporters PHOENIX, June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Congressman Raul Grijalva is endorsing Kara Kelty for the Arizona Corporation Commission. The announcement came as the Kelty campaign filed the names and signatures of over 7,000 Arizona supporters with the Arizona Secretary of State.
Kelty declared her campaign for Clean, Affordable Energy officially underway. Among those signing Kelty's nominating petitions were Governor Janet Napolitano, as well as Former Democratic Corporation Commission Members Jim Weeks, Marcia Weeks and Renz Jennings. Congressman Grijalva added his name over the weekend while he and Kelty walked door-to-door in the Tucson area.
"As I have traveled across Arizona asking people to join my campaign for clean, affordable energy, I have heard from so many families who are struggling to keep up with rising electricity rates, gas prices, food prices and health care," Kelty said. "I have made the same commitment to everyone I've met. I will be a Arizona Corporation Commissioner who will fight for clean, affordable energy that will create new jobs and open up new careers." Kelty built a network of volunteers across the state to help gather the petition signatures, and that organization is now actively gathering five-dollar contributions for her Clean Elections campaign. "I am supporting Kara Kelty because I believe she will be the vocal advocate we need for solar, wind, geothermal and other alternative energy sources on the Commission," said Lon Huber, a Kelty campaign volunteer and University of Arizona student who gathered hundreds of petition signatures for the campaign. Kelty is completing her second term as a City Council Member in Flagstaff. She has been a community activist and volunteer for over 10 years working for environmental conservation, affordable housing, bi-lingual education and economic development. Kara, a fluent Spanish speaker, served five years in the U.S. Peace Corps and moved to Flagstaff in 1995. She is married and has two children.
